What is Leaky Gut?

The term ‘leaky gut’ is misleading. Your gut is responsible for digesting food but also for absorbing nutrients through your intestinal walls. Without this permeability your body wouldn’t be able to absorb the nutrients it needs to survive. Therefore, having a ‘leaky gut’ is essential to your health.

HOWEVER
Your intestinal wall is made up of cells connected by tight junctions. When you eat things that cause inflammation in your gut, zonulin is released which causes these cells to swell and form gaps between them allowing things that usually would not be absorbed, into the bloodstream. A better way to describe this would be intestinal HYPER permeability.

Some things that can cross into the bloodstream include…
undigested food
bacteria
toxins
gluten

All of these things trigger your immune system to react because once they cross into your bloodstream they are recognized as foreign. This causes a systemic reaction in your body and is a MAJOR source of inflammation

Signs & Symptoms
brain fog
bloating
skin rashes
diarrhea/constipation
autoimmune diseases
anxiety
depression
weight gain
chronic fatigue

The best way to combat this is to get tested and figure out what is triggering YOUR body to react this way.
