Goldenseal (hydrastis canadensis) is a perennial herb belonging to the buttercup family. A low, sprawling plant native to North America, Goldenseal is one of the five top-selling herbs in the United States.
The dried underground stems (rhizomes) and roots are used to make a number of beneficial products, including liquid extracts. Goldenseal contains berberine, which has been proven to be antimicrobial, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and helps reduce blood sugar levels.
