Why and How to Ditch Gluten

🤔Gluten’s a hot topic with a bad rep… so why and how should you ditch it?

Many people experiencing gluten issues may struggle with symptoms they do not immediately connect to food, including fatigue, bloating, headaches, skin irritation, and chronic inflammation.

Gluten is inflammatory and increases gut permeability, leading to a “leaky gut.”

For individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease symptoms, even small amounts of gluten may contribute to digestive issues from gluten, immune reactions, and ongoing inflammation within the body.

While some people may not feel an immediate response after consuming gluten, it can still cause systemic inflammation and damage various parts of the body, including the brain, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. Some common signs of gluten intolerance include brain fog, digestive discomfort, skin conditions, joint pain, low energy, and worsening inflammation after consuming gluten-containing foods. Even if you eat healthily, a damaged GI tract can lead to malnourishment.

"Gluten-free" is here to stay, and consuming gluten is the habit that needs to go. One of the major benefits of going gluten free is reducing inflammation and supporting better gut health, energy levels, and immune function.

🙌How to give it up:

1- Know which foods commonly have gluten - breads, crackers, baked goods, and any other foods that use flour as thickening agents

2 - Read labels and watch for sneaky ingredients - wheat, barley, rye, spelt, semolina, durum, and triticale, seitan, bulgur, cereal extract, couscous, flour, triticum, malt, & more

3 - Know that just because something is gluten-free does not mean it is automatically healthy

4 - Swap out ingredients in dishes

5 - Make sure to check beverage labels as well

Following a gluten free lifestyle starts with learning how to identify hidden gluten sources, choosing whole foods, and practicing healthy gluten free diet tips that support long-term wellness.
